Grenada

Overview

Grenada consists of three islands - Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique - of which the largest, Grenada, is topped by Mount St. Catherine. Carriacou has less rugged terrain, together with sandy beaches and natural harbours. Petite Martinique, the smallest island of the three, is relatively unspoilt and consists of little more than the tip of a volcano projecting through the water.

As an island group, Grenada offers probably the widest range of environments in the Caribbean - everything from crater lakes, coastal mangroves and white sand beaches to coral reefs, forests and a huge variety of plant and animal life. St. George’s, the capital of Grenada, has a horseshoe-shaped harbour, surrounded by warehouses, and traditional shops and houses. Grenada's historic past has resulted in a cosmopolitan city rich in English, French and West Indian architecture.
