Tax breaks / incentives
As referenced above there are no standard tax incentives for film, TV and commercials at present. But it is crucial to check in with the MDA to see what other support exists. The MDA ran a high-profile I Made It In Singapore campaign at industry markets like MIPTV, underlining its desire to attract work. It also has a Film In Singapore Scheme that should be investigated to get a sense of what is on offer.
The MDA’s strategy is designed to improve the country’s performance across all types of media content. It has supported the development of a state-of-the-art media hub called Mediapolis and backed specific areas such as animation, digital media, gaming, 3D – as well as film and television. Its total investment runs to hundreds of millions of US$.
The country is a keen advocate of co-productions that help develop skills within the country so it does have a budget to support such ventures. Singapore also has co-pro treaties with countries including China, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
