Malta increases production incentive to 25%
The Maltese government has increased its financial aid for foreign producers filming in the country to 25%. Recent films shot there include World War Z.

The Maltese government has increased its financial aid for foreign producers filming in the country to 25%.
Commenting on the 2% increase, Peter Busuttil, Malta film commissioner said: “We are working hard to assist production companies to maximise their rebate in a way that creates economic turnaround for Malta. Depending on how much is spent in Malta, producers get reimbursed with a percentage of the original spending”.
The incentive applies if Malta is used to stand in as Malta. Up to 70 productions have been assisted by the Maltese government, refunding an estimated €27m in rebates
Malta is becoming increasingly known throughout the international film, TV, and commercials industry as a developing film-servicing sector. Brad Pitt’s zombie flick World War Z (2013) filmed there and The Whale (2013) - a one-off drama produced by the BBC for BBC One and Discovery - used Malta’s gigantic water tank at Mediterranean Film Studios as well as locations in the island of Gozo.
