Shooting is now underway in Brazil on a biopic about football legend Pele. The film tells the story of the player’s rise from a young boy to scoring Brazil’s winning goal during the World Cup in 1958, when he was aged just 17.

Shooting is now underway in Brazil on a biopic about football legend Pele. The film tells the story of the player’s rise from a young boy to scoring Brazil’s winning goal during the World Cup in 1958, when he was aged just 17.
The project comes from Imagine Entertainment and Seine Pictures, with documentary makers Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist at the helm. Pele himself is exec-producing, alongside Paul Kemlsey and Exclusive Media. Financing the film is Seine Pictures.
As regards to cast, two actors will play Pele: Leonardo Lima Carvalho for his younger years and Kevin de Paula from ages 13 to 17. Vincent D'Onofrio, Rodrigo Santoro, Diego Boneta, Colm Meaney and Seu Jorge have also been lined up to star.
Commenting on the project, Imagine’s Brian Grazer said: “I've always been excited about the exploration of genius. Pele is that story. He is an inspiration to his country.”
