Fresh from his critical success in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, British actor David Oyelowo is lining up projects all over the world, which should keep him busy for a while.
It has just been announced that Oyelowo – who starred opposite Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher - is on board Captive, set to starts shooting soon with Jerry Jameson directing. The film is based on the real life events that took place in 2005 when Brian Nichols (to be played by Oyelowo) escaped from a courthouse jail in Atlanta and killed four officials, including a police officer and his case judge. Kate Mara will co-star as Ashley Smith, a single mother and addict taken hostage by Nichols, with unexpected consequences.
Among his projects lined up for the future is the role of iconic boxer Sugar Ray Leonard in a biopic called Sweet Thunder, which Oyelowo will also executive produce.
The Lincoln actor has recently been working on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar from BN Films. With the plot very much under wraps, the film is generally being described as a ‘deep space wormhole project’. Its very starry cast includes Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain and Casey Affleck.
The actor has also just wrapped indie drama Nightingale, from the same shingle. And he was in LA earlier this year filming his role of Nina Simone’s manager Clifton Henderson, with whom the legendary jazz pianist and singer had a relationship. The biopic is called Nina, and comes from UK-based production company Ealing Studios and writer/director Cynthia Mort.
Finally, as if he hasn’t had enough on his plate, Oyelowo has airplane hostage thriller Default in the can, which shot in Ontario and California.
