UK-based production shingle Number 9 Films have chosen Cincinnati as the main shooting location for Carol, the forthcoming feature starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.
The company is producing alongside the UK’s Film4 and Killer Films in New York, with Todd Haynes directing from a screenplay by Phyllis Nagy. Shooting is due to run from March-May.
The thriller is adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt and is set in 1950s New York, which will be ‘played’ by Cincinnati. The city, which is located on the north bank of the Ohio River, has a plethora of period architecture which resembles that of the Big Apple.
Another factor which swayed the producers in their choice was the attractive tax incentive package on offer. It is estimated that the film will provide work for hundreds of local crew and some actors.
