The Netherlands launches new cash incentive and film commission
The Netherlands Film Fund announced a new production incentive at the Cannes Film Festival.

At the Cannes Film Festival the Netherlands Film Fund, responsible for supporting film production in the Netherlands, announced the launch of a new production incentive which offers a 30% cash rebate on eligible Dutch spend for features, documentaries and feature length animations.
The €20m Netherlands Film Production Incentive was brought to life to stimulate greater international investment in the Dutch film industry. The Netherlands Film Fund also announced the launch of a new Netherlands Film Commission which will promote the country, its incentives and locations to the international film industry.
The production incentive offers 30% cash rebates on eligible Dutch spend for features and feature length animation projects with a minimum production budget of €1m euro, and for documentaries with a minimum budget of €250,000. The maximum grant per application is €1m. At least 50% of the financing of the production budget should be in place upon application with the allocation from the Dutch fund bringing the financing to completion.
The decisions to allocate the budget will be made across different application rounds. The first deadline for submissions is 5 June 2014 with a budget cap of €9.7m.

CEO of Netherlands Film Fund, Doreen Boonekamp, said: “The launch of the Film Production Incentive together with the film commission marks a significant step forward for the Netherlands on the international stage. We have highly qualified English speaking professionals, a finely meshed infrastructure, both physical and digital, as well as unique locations. Together with our open attitude towards co-production we have a lot to offer to the international industry. We trust this will give a boost to our international co-operation and exchange of creativity. ”
In recent years Dutch films have performed well on the international stage with Alex van Warmerdam's film Borgman taking Cannes by storm in 2013 and Boudewijjn Koole's Kauwboy being selected for the 2013 Academy Awards as the official Dutch entry for Best Foreign Language feature.
