Steven Spielberg looks set to select Vancouver as the main production hub for his much-anticipated feature, The BFG.
The big screen adaptation of the Roald Dahl book is due to start filming in the first quarter of next year in the city, situated on Canada’s west coast.
The lovely people at the regional film commission, Creative BC, were unable to confirm anything about ‘attribution’, but we spoke to an insider close to the project who said Vancouver was the chosen location for the bulk of the shoot.
After several calls to the major studios in Vancouver, it is clear that much of this Spielberg project is still under wraps; the director normally guards his features with a working title throughout production. Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill have officially been confirmed as the leads, with more casting announcements expected soon.
Canada is currently enjoying an upsurge in big-budget, star-laden features, with A-list heft including Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Will Smith making their way to Pinewood Studios,Toronto, for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad next year. According to numerous reports, Guillermo del Toro is also beating a path there for Pacific Rim 2.
