Roland Emmerich is heading to New Mexico to film Independence Day 2, the sequel to the Will Smith-starring 1996 smash hit film.
The project is set to begin principal photography early next month with an all-star cast including: Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch. The plot for the second chapter of the alien franchise will entail the extra terrestrials returning to a more prepared earth with a near insurmountable force of manpower and technology.
Speaking on shooting in New Mexico, Emmerich said: “I’m beyond excited to bring the sequel to New Mexico. With their state of the art Albuquerque Studios, the robust tax incentive program, the proximity to Los Angeles and last but not least the talented cast and crew, it makes New Mexico a great fit for my movie.”
The sequel is eligible for the 25% film tax credit that New Mexico can provide on all direct production expenditures within the state.
Twentieth Century Fox plans to release the film in cinemas worldwide on June 24, 2016.
