U.S. show Homeland is set to become the first American television series to shoot a full season entirely in Germany.
Showtime, the network behind the series, announced on Monday that the show will be leaving the picturesque South African shores, portrayed as Pakistan in Season 4, for Berlin-based Studio Babelsberg, which helped bring Oscar-winning film The Grand Budapest hotel to life.
The new run picks up two years after Carrie Mathison’s (Claire Danes) emotional rollercoaster as the Islamabad station chief. After leaving the CIA, she finds herself working for a private security firm in Berlin.
The show is reportedly welcoming the move to Germany as last year the producers and Showtime were criticised heavily by Pakistani officials because of the rough, violent depiction of the country.
The new 12-episode season begins shooting in June and premieres in the U.S. this autumn.
