Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn are preparing for principal photography to get underway this week on Blackbird, a big screen adaptation of David Harrower’s challenging stage play.
Shooting in London, the piece centres on a prolonged and intense confrontation between 55 year-old Ray (Mendelsohn) and 27 year-old Una (Mara) - the last time the two met was fifteen years before, when they had an illicit affair when she was just 12 - for which he was imprisoned.
The film version is the directorial feature debut of Reykjavik-based, Australian-born theatre director Benedict Andrews, working from Harrower’s own screenplay. The producers are Jean Doumanian and Patrick Daly of Doumanian Productions in New York.
