Annette Bening, Saoirse Ronan and Elisabeth Moss are all in New York filming a big screen adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull. Corey Stoll, Jon Tenney and Billy Howle also star.
Principal photography began on 29 June on the film, which counts among its producers Amadeus actor Tom Hulce, who is joined by Robert Salerno and Leslie Urdang. Director Michael Mayer is calling the shots from a screenplay by Stephen Karam.
Considered the first of Chekhov's four major plays, The Seagull is set in the Russian countryside at the end of the 19th century, focusing on the conflict between the four main characters who are essentially unfulfilled and dissatisfied with their lives.
