Michael Fassbender has started filming new crime thriller The Snowman on location in Norway with co-star Rebecca Ferguson and director Tomas Alfredson.
Norway launched a new 25% filming rebate late last year and The Snowman is the first international production to benefit. The shoot also has the financial support of the city of Oslo, reports production outlet Cineuropa.
The Snowman features troubled police officer Harry Hole – played by Fassbender – originally created by Norwegian novelist Jo Nesbø. The novel of The Snowman is in fact the seventh in a series of ten.
Location filming for The Snowman will take place in the capital Oslo, in Bergen on the south-west coast and in Rjukan, which lies inland between the two cities. The majority of the crew is being hired locally.
Norway has long struggled to attract high-profile international productions owing to its lack of a national filming incentive, so The Snowman will help boost its profile.
