Comic book movie X-Men: The New Mutants has wrapped three months of filming in Boston.
The production is a spinoff from the main X-Men franchise and features a younger cast of characters who are just discovering their superhuman powers while being held against their will in a secret facility.
Filming on The New Mutants focused on the former Medfield State Hospital, a distinctive building outside Boston that is listed on America’s National Register of Historic Places and has been used for several feature films since closing 15 years ago.
Massachusetts is gradually building its production profile in the US and is currently hosting the major TV drama series Castle Rock, which is based on multiple stories from horror novelist Stephen King.
The New Mutants is not to be confused with X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which is the latest entry in the main franchise featuring the X-Men universe’s established characters, and is currently filming in Montreal.
