The fourth season of HBO's television series Game of Thrones started filming in the Croatian city Dubrovnik.
With the local coordination of Croatian production house Embassy Films, the Emmy-nominated series is among the first beneficiaries of the Croatian Production Incentive Programme – a system of cash rebates enabled in 2011 by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and Croatian Ministry of Culture in order to attract more international productions.

As a location Dubrovnik was also used in seasons two and three as the location for King's Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms. Over the last two years several locations around Dubrovnik have been used as a setting for the series' plots, including the island of Lokrum, the Lovrijenac fortress and the 15th century arboretum in Terestino.
Last year's filming of Game of Thrones Season Three was among the first projects to use the benefits of the Croatian Production Incentive Programme – a cash rebate system that guarantees the return of up to 20% of a projects' qualifying expenditure.
Other projects that benefited from this programme are the upcoming feature film Diana with Naomi Watts as the British princess and the recently completed feature Patriotic Man by Finnish director Arto Halonen.
