Shooting begins in Paris on 26 September on My Old Lady, the feature debut from playwright and screenwriter Israel Horovitz, starring Kristin Scott Thomas (who replaces Jane Birkin), Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline and Dominique Pinon.
Kline plays down-on-his-luck New Yorker Mathias, who heads to Paris to liquidate a large and valuable apartment he has inherited from his estranged father. But he finds a refined elderly lady (Smith) and her daughter (Scott Thomas) living in the property. Under an ancient French property system known as a viager, Mathias cannot claim his inheritance until the old lady dies. And it turns out she had enjoyed more than a passing friendship with his father…

Rachael Horovitz (daughter of Israel) produces alongside Gary Foster (Emperor), Nitsa Benchetrit and David Barrot.
The Paris-based co-producers are are David Atrakchi, Boris Mendza and Gael Cabouat for Fulldawa Films. Charles Cohen and Daniel Battsek will executive produce for Cohen Media Group while Joe Oppenheimer and Christine Langan will executive produce for BBC Films.
Director Horovitz, who has adapted the screenplay from his stage play Tres chere Matilde, said of the film: “Sidney Lumet once told me that the secret to great directing is to cast great actors and then stay out of their way. I've gotten the first part right: Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline and Kristin Scott Thomas. And Paris, too. Dream team!”
