After a rocky start, Marvel’s Ant-Man finally kicked off principal photography on Monday (18 August) in San Francisco, California. The film will also shoot on location in Atlanta, Georgia, the main base for the production.
Directed by Peyton Reed, who replaces Edgar Wright who left the project in May, the film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang (pictured), aka Ant-Man, a con-man with the ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength. Michael Douglas plays his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym.

It’s clear to see why producers chose Georgia as the film's base: it will be one of the first behemoth projects to use Pinewood’s shiny new 288 acre studio and in terms of tax incentives, the state offers a transferable 20% tax credit on total qualified in-state spend. An additional 10% is available for productions including a promotional Georgia logo in the end credits.
California offers 20% of qualifying local spend in the case of qualifying features and is becoming a more appealing location for filmmakers after a bill was recently approved to increase the state’s tax credits fourfold.
Ant-Man is produced by Marvel Studios' president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D'Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee acting as executive producers. It is set for release in the US on 17 July 2015.
