Filming in New York has been boosted 21% over the past four years, contributing $8.7bn to the local economy since 2011.
Forty-six episodic TV series filmed in New York City in the 2014-15 season, compared to 29 in the previous year. The increase is the largest in the city’s history. More than 250 feature films have shot in New York City so far this year.

New York is now one of only three cities in the world where producers can shoot locally without having to bring anyone in from elsewhere, according to the report from Boston Consulting Group.
State Senator Marty Golden has been a long-term champion of New York’s filming incentive, and said:
“New York has always been central to stories on the big screen, but many times New York City was recreated on a set, because it was too expensive to film here. We changed that and now we see camera crews and actors filming New York scenes right here on the streets of the Big Apple on a regular basis.”
For the past few years, New York has offered a generous 30% filming tax credit and has become one of the top production locations in the US.
Shooting is specifically incentivised for upstate regions outside New York City’s Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District, and a 5% post-production credit had its fund more than tripled to $25m earlier this year.
New York now faces greater competition from California, which is aiming for a greater share of the US television market with a massively increased film fund for its own tax credit programme.
