Steven Spielberg plans to shoot his new movie Ready Player One in the UK, with next summer being looked at as a start time.
Ready Player One is an adaptation of the dystopian 2011 novel by Ernest Cline and follows a teen hero who must break free of a virtual utopia and confront the unpleasantness of the real world.

The film will mark Spielberg’s first UK shoot since War Horse. Previously, the director shot his seminal war movie Saving Private Ryan partly in Ireland and in Hatfield north of London, where his team built a wrecked French town. He returned to the UK shortly afterwards as a producer of the Second World War miniseries Band of Brothers.
Spielberg recently wrapped a live-action adaptation of classic Roald Dahl novel The BFG that filmed mostly in Vancouver. His Cold War drama Bridge of Spies shot in New York, Germany and Poland.
The UK is one of the top production hubs in the world, partly because of its generous filming incentives. South-east England offers a collection of world-class studios, including Pinewood and Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.
Purpose-built studio space remains limited in the UK and many productions – particularly high-end TV – are choosing to create their own filming spaces in former warehouses as cheaper and sometimes more convenient long-term alternatives.
