France boosted its filming incentive programme on 1 January and is set to host scenes for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Second World War drama Dunkirk.
Nolan’s new film will tell the story of the infamous mass evacuation of Allied forces from the beaches of Dunkirk in northern France in mid-1940.

Codenamed Operation Dynamo, the mission saw nearly 340,000 Allied troops rescued by a huge flotilla of ships and boats as the soldiers were overwhelmed by the advancing German army.
Regular Nolan collaborator Tom Hardy is in talks to join the cast, as are fellow British actors Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh. Nolan will again work with his wife and producing partner Emma Thomas.
“We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Christopher Nolan, a singular filmmaker who has created some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of all time,” said Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros Studios.
“Dunkirk is a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realise it on the big screen.”
The film is a win for France’s boosted filming incentive and will help build the country’s international production appeal. As of 1 January this year, the Tax Rebate for International Productions (TRIP) rose from 20% to 30% of eligible local spend, with an increased per-production cap of €30m.
