The TV series was developed by actor and producer Seth Rogen and his business partner Evan Goldberg, and is being run by Sam Catlin, a veteran of Breaking Bad.
“Albuquerque welcomes Preacher to our city,” said Richard J Berry, mayor of Albuquerque. “We support the movie industry, and the movie industry supports our economy; it's a great thing for everyone.”
New Mexico’s filming incentive includes a 30% tax credit for TV production and 25% for movie shoots. Crime drama Breaking Bad helped establish the state’s TV industry and two seasons of the show’s prequel series Better Call Saul have since filmed locally.
Albuquerque is generally the focus of New Mexico’s production industry, but nearby Santa Fe also attracts shoots to its studio facility and is now setting up its own film commission.
Recent feature productions in New Mexico have included the drug cartel drama Sicario, a remake of The Magnificent Seven and the alien thriller Independence Day: Resurgence.
