The new film from Austrian director Michael Haneke has been launched at Berlinale’s European Film Market and will shoot in northern France this summer.
Happy End is a $13.6m production that will focus on an insular bourgeois European family oblivious to what’s going on in the rest of the world, Screen reports. The current immigration crisis will be part of the storyline

“We’re pleased to work again with our usual partners X Filme and Wega Film,” said Margaret Menegoz of Les Films du Losange in comments to Screen. “It will be an ensemble shot in French. It’s the first time Michael Haneke will shoot in provincial France.”
Happy End will be Haneke’s first theatrically-released movie since the critically-acclaimed film Amour (pictured).
International interest in France has increased since the country’s Tax Rebate for International Production was boosted to 30% in January this year.
