Building work has started on a new film studio at Giant’s Park in Belfast, which could help boost Northern Ireland’s international production profile.
Belfast Harbour Studios will offer two sound stages, workshops and production offices as part of a facility that will span 120,000 sq ft.

The complex is being developed by Belfast Harbour and was designed with the involvement of Northern Ireland Screen, as well as prospective future clients.
“It is well known within the global screen industry that the demand for studio space currently outstrips supply in the UK,” said Richard Williams, head of Northern Ireland Screen.
“We are delighted that the proposed new sound stages on the North Foreshore are going ahead and with our recent successful track record in attracting large-scale film and television production to Northern Ireland, we remain convinced that more screen production will be forthcoming once the infrastructure becomes available.”
Northern Ireland has had spectacular success in recent years with HBO’s hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones (pictured), which is based at Titanic Studios in Belfast. British film and TV productions like the BBC’s serial killer drama The Fall and Ben Wheatley’s feature High-Rise have both shot locally.
However, Northern Ireland still attracts relatively few productions from outside the UK, so Belfast Harbour Studios may help bolster the region’s global appeal.
