Production spending in New Mexico rose by nearly $100m in the last financial year, new figures have revealed.
More than 60 films and TV shows, including Independence Day: Resurgence, Better Call Saul (pictured), Preacher and From Dusk Till Dawn delivered a combined $387m, according to a report from the New Mexico Film Office. Half of these shoots were higher-spending projects with budgets over a million dollars each.

“This is a tremendous achievement that all New Mexicans can be very proud of,” said Nick Maniatis, director of the New Mexico Film Office.
“While we’re continuing to grow New Mexico as a leader in the television and film industry, we won’t rest on our laurels. We’ll continue to build on this success and find innovative ways to put more New Mexicans to work.”
New Mexico’s generous filming incentive support has helped turn the state into the most popular part of the US for desert locations. Nearby California still hosts many more shoots, but Albuquerque and Santa Fe in New Mexico are the main filming locations for big-budget productions in the American south-west.
Upcoming feature shoots include the Arizona-set true-life firefighter story Granite Mountain and Christian Bale’s Western drama Hostiles.
