New ten-part TV anthology series The Terror is set to film in Budapest and Croatia for five months from mid-November.
Based on a novel by Dan Simmons, the series will star Jared Harris in the story of a group of Royal Navy sailors in the mid-19th century who encounter a terrifying creature while searching for the Northwest Passage through the Arctic Ocean.

The Northwest Passage route connects the Northern Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean across the far north of Canada. In real life it was first explored in the 1850s, but another half-century passed before it was successfully navigated.
As a remote and inhospitable location, it is a suitable setting for a survival story pitting isolated individuals against a mysterious and vicious foe.
“The story of man’s battle with nature and an unknown predator makes The Terror a gripping and imaginative series, and calls for a special kind of actor,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for US cable network AMC and SundanceTV.
Budapest is a popular Eastern European filming location due a combination of lower basic production costs and a 25% incentive. The city also offers resources like Korda Studios, which has six sound stages and a water tank, while Origo Studios has nine stages.
The Terror is the second period US drama in just a few weeks to announce a Budapest shoot, with The Alienist set to recreate 19th century New York in the Hungarian capital from early next year.
