Thailand has launched a base 15% filming incentive as its first formal production support for international producers.
An extra 5% will be made available to shoots that use Thai crew and help promote national tourism.

To be eligible for the support, producers will need to spend the equivalent of $1.4m locally, but incentive payments will be capped at around $2.17m. January marks the first of three application windows for this year.
More than 700 international productions filmed in Thailand in 2015, although this figure dropped to 600 last year. Most shoots originate from Japan, India, China and mainland Europe, with commercials and documentaries by far the most prolific types of production.
Commercials will not in fact be supported by the new incentive.
“Thailand is the best-equipped country in South-East Asia in terms of crew and equipment, and it’s a safe and stable place,” said veteran location manager Ilt Jones, who has experience of scouting the country, in comments to KFTV.
High-profile Hollywood productions are less common in Thailand but have included The Hangover: Part II and Only God Forgives.
