Fifteen different European languages will be supported by the streaming platform by the end of this year.

“Great storytelling knows no geographic bounds,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer.

“After four years of original programming and filming in 18 countries, we know compelling stories can come from anywhere and, no matter their origin, can resonate with audiences around the world.”

Netflix also made several co-production announcements, including its involvement as a partner on the BBC’s upcoming drama series Troy: Fall of a City and Black Earth Rising.

The company has been steadily expanding its production interests around the world over the past couple of years.

Pablo Escobar drug war drama Narcos has been filmed on location in Colombia in English and Spanish, while Spanish series Les Chicas des Cable (Cable Girls) shot in Madrid to tell the period story of women working at the country’s first telephone exchange in the 1920s. A second series of Marseille (pictured) is scheduled to film in France from this spring.

Netflix has around 93 million subscribers across the world.
