Delegates from Quebec’s film and TV sector will visit the major Hollywood studios in Los Angeles to promote the eastern Canadian province as a production centre.
"In the past few years Montreal's film production expertise has become further refined, in terms of filming infrastructures as well as visual and animation effects technologies,” said Manon Gauthier, the Montreal politician responsible for culture who will lead the delegation.

“We intend to present an overall picture of our production resources to the Hollywood film industry, therefore including the financial incentives we offer. Let's not forget that in 2015 international film shoots in Quebec generated more than CA$310m in economic benefits.”
Montreal is already on Hollywood radar as the home of the X-Men franchise. The Quebec production industry – and its visual effects sector – also got a boost through the critical attention generated by alien contact movie Arrival (pictured), which was directed by Quebec native Denis Villeneuve and was based in Montreal.
The film was nominated for eight Oscars – including Best Picture – and took home the Academy Award for Sound Editing.
Toronto and Vancouver are still Canada’s main production hubs. However, Quebec has a base 20% filming incentive and a separate 16% visual effects rebate – an attractive support programme for Hollywood executives.
“With more than 40 special effects and animation studios and a pool of 3,000 specialists, Montreal has earned a well-deserved international reputation in this field,” said Gauthier.
“Our goal is to draw on this expertise to promote Montreal-based talent and attract more film shoots to our city.”
