York Studios in New York City has started building a new filming facility in the South Bronx, which will become the company’s second production site.
The 350,000 sq ft production campus will offer easy access to Bronx locations that are relatively under-seen in films and TV shows. Construction is taking place on a vacant ten-acre city lot.

York Studios already operates a 40,000 sq ft facility in Queens, across the East River from the Bronx, which has hosted scenes for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and TV series Elementary.
“I get calls every other day from producers looking for stage space for feature films, television and commercials,” said John Battista, executive vice president of operations for York Studios, in comments to media outlet Crain’s New York Business.
“There are so many more platforms out there, like Netflix and Amazon, and everyone is looking for more and more content.”
Five stages are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018, with three additional stages to be constructed as part of further development.
In February plans were announced for a new film and TV facility called the ‘Made in NY’ Campus in Brooklyn, which is scheduled to open in 2020.
New York’s generous filming incentive support programme – recently extended – has helped turn the city into one of America’s top filming locations.
