Feature productions declined nearly 20% between April and June, while location filming for TV dramas fell by nearly 25%, a FilmLA report shows.

Web-based television production is thriving in Los Angeles, but even this dropped by over 20% over the past three months.
“Declines in any category need to be put in context: the year-to-date comparison for the last seven years shows 2017 is second only to 2016 for total shoot days,” said Paul Audley, president of FilmLA.
Location filming for commercials was the only production category to have a buoyant quarter, showing an increase of just under 15%.
California prioritises TV dramas and relocating series for filming incentive support, but the majority of projects shot in Los Angeles in the second quarter did not in fact receive the state’s tax credits, continuing a long-term trend.
Earlier this month the time-travel drama series Timeless became the latest high-profile series to relocate to California.
