Transformers spinoff movie Bumblebee has started filming on location in California as Paramount Pictures seeks to establish an expanded ‘cinematic universe’.
The new film will make the rare move of shooting entirely in California, including in San Francisco, with the Los Angeles Times reporting that producers have secured tax credits worth $22m.

Bumblebee is a part of the heroic ‘Autobots’ robot team who comprise the Transformers universe.
The character turns into a small yellow car and has been a central part of Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise since the first film was launched back in 2007.
The new film is part of Paramount’s efforts to emulate Marvel Studios’ success and the superhero movies made by Warner Bros. and DC.
Transformers: The Last Knight opened in June as the fifth in the franchise after filming across the UK, as well as in the US.
Last week the superhero movie Captain Marvel secured tax credit support of $20m to shoot on location in California.
The film will be the first Marvel movie in nearly four years to be based in the state. Marvel Studios recently said that more of its productions would be based in Los Angeles if the tax credit system was more supportive of big-budget features.
