Drama series The Last Post filmed Cape Town’s colonial architecture as a double for the Yemeni port city of Aden.
Produced by UK companies The Forge and Bonafide Films, The Last Post is set in the 1960s and is based on the childhood experiences of writer Peter Moffat, whose father served in Aden in the Royal Military Police.

“In looking for a match for Aden we knew we needed coast, mountains and desert but with a colonial influence in terms of architecture,” said Margery Bone, an executive producer on the show for Bonafide Films.
“Cape Town doubled perfectly for all these elements so it was an easy decision to base ourselves there. Finding a disused British naval base that overlooked Simon’s Town bay enabled us to give our drama the kind of scale it is normally difficult to achieve on a television shoot.”
South Africa is one of the most popular southern hemisphere filming locations. The BBC shoots there extensively and has Troy: Fall Of A City coming up on its schedule.
Recent film productions have included Stephen King fantasy adaptation The Dark Tower, which used the country’s wilderness landscapes as a stand in for the plains of an unforgiving alternate reality.
