International location filming in Thailand has increased nearly 20% since the launch of the country’s first formal production incentive.
Japanese productions are the most prolific international shoots in Thailand, with projects from India and Europe rounding out the top three, according to figures from the Thailand Film Office.

“These figures are the results of the ongoing efforts of the Thailand Film Office and the production services industry to constantly improve and to inform the international production industry of the skills, talent and value available in Thailand,” said Worateera Suvarnsorn, director of the Thailand Film Office.
“We can now offer a support infrastructure that truly reflects the importance of international productions to the economy and global reputation of Thailand.”
Thai authorities launched a base 15% filming incentive earlier this year. While a landmark development for the country, per-production payments are capped at just over $2m, meaning Thailand still has only limited financial appeal for international shoots with bigger budgets.
