New TV drama series Nightflyers – based on a 1980 novella by Game of Thrones author George RR Martin – will film as a full series at Troy Studios in western Ireland.
Plans for a pilot episode were first announced last summer. Now, US cable channel Syfy has commissioned a full series starring Gretchen Mol, a veteran of TV drama Boardwalk Empire and Oscar-winning movie Manchester by the Sea.

“The series, produced in Ireland, is moving forward with the support of the government of Ireland, through the minister for culture, heritage and Gaeltacht, and the Irish Film Board,” said the Syfy network in a statement.
Nightflyers follows a crew of human space travellers seeking contact with alien life at the edges of the solar system.
Troy Studios is situated outside Limerick and offers three stages, the largest of which spans more than 30,000 sq ft.
Ireland has had a profile boost in recent weeks with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The movie filmed in multiple west coast locations to create the rocky coastal home of the franchise’s iconic character Luke Skywalker.
