Portugal is set to boost its filming incentive rebate to 30% of eligible local spending for shoots, with a per-production cap of €4m.
The country’s base filming incentive will in fact remain at 25% but projects that specifically showcase Portuguese culture or that shoot outside the country’s main production hubs will become eligible for the additional support.

“This is a very exciting time for Portugal,” said Ana Mendes Godinho, Portugal’s secretary of state for tourism, in comments to Variety.
“We’re seeing tremendous interest in Portugal as a tourist destination and feel sure that the US film and TV industry will also fall in love with our sunny days, beautiful landscapes, architecture and culture.”
Portugal is not yet known as a European production hub, but the boosted filming incentive will help raise the country’s profile on the continent.
The country’s biggest recent international films have included Terry Gilliam’s long-gestating film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.
