Major superhero movie Captain Marvel has started filming in Los Angeles with Oscar-winner Brie Larson in the title role.
Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel features Larson (pictured doing research at a Nevada Air Force base) as a United States Air Force pilot who becomes the all-powerful character of the title when Earth is caught up in an intergalactic war between two alien races.

The movie is using Los Angeles as a production base – an unusual move for a big-budget feature – after being awarded tax credit support of around $20m by the California Film Commission last summer.
Location filming is also scheduled for Fresno, a couple of hundred miles north of Los Angeles, and for Baton Rouge and New Orleans in Louisiana.
Marvel has based many of its recent movies at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Georgia, a top US production hub for big-budget filmmaking.
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel, has previously said the company will base more productions in California should the state’s tax credit programme support high-spending features more readily.
