Netflix has announced backing for two South American TV dramas – The Faction in Brazil and Puerta 7 in Argentina, both of which are pitched as gritty crime sagas.
The Faction follows a woman who is coerced into informing on a Brazilian criminal gang led by her brother, and will be produced locally by O2 Films.

“We are thrilled to be producing for Netflix a show about such a relevant issue,” said Pedro Morelli of O2 Films.
“In a country where people have grown used to appalling levels of violence, The Faction addresses the contradictory Brazilian reality as a way of better understanding the origin of the problem.”
Puerta 7 tells stories set within the notorious gangs that battle for control of Argentina’s football clubs and will be made by Pol-ka of Buenos Aires.
“Since its inception, our production company has worked tirelessly to produce high-quality content for television, and this opportunity fills us with pride,” said Adrian Suar, who is founder and artistic director of Pol-Ka.
Netflix continues to build on a long-term commitment to South American production, with Colombia-filmed drug drama Narcos among one of the platform’s most recognisable international shows.
