Teefa in Trouble

Pakistani action movie Teefa in Trouble showcases a multitude of Polish filming locations following a month-long shoot in Warsaw last year.

The 'gangster comedy' follows a young woman raised in Europe by a Pakistani family who goes on the run to avoid an arranged marriage.

Pakistani studio Lightingale Productions produced the film, which was co-written by studio owner Ali Zafar and directed by Ahsan Rahim. The production was supported by a largely Polish crew.

“We hope that this picture will positively influence [images of Poland] abroad,” said Dawid Szurmiej from Studio Agart, a Warsaw-based company that provided the film’s Polish cast and crew.

“It is also an opportunity to show the capital to the Polish audience from a different perspective, with an oriental note.”

Poland does not yet offer formal filming incentive support, though plans have been persistently set out - but so far not acted upon - over the past few years. The country is nonetheless a popular European production location and attracts a steady flow of productions from further east and particularly India.

Earlier this year Netflix announced that the eight-part drama 1983 would be its first Polish-language production. The series is set in an alternate reality where a terror attack in 1983 meant the Iron Curtain stayed standing through to the present day.
