Hulu has greenlit a new TV drama inspired by the 1994 British rom-com Four Weddings and a Funeral, with the project gearing up to film in London next month.

The drama goes by the same name as the film, which was written by Richard Curtis and directed by Mike Newell.

Hulu’s series has been created and written by Mindy Kaling, best known for TV series The Mindy Project; MGM is making the show in association with Universal.

Four Weddings and a Funeral will film mostly in London, where much of the action is set, and stars Jessica Williams as a communications director based in New York who goes to London to attend a wedding.

She ends up staying for longer than she first intended and, while meeting up with old friends, finds herself at the centre of their various personal crises. Rebecca Rittenhouse, Nikesh Patel and John Reynolds are among the cast.

Hulu is also in pre-production in the UK on the third series of period drama Harlots, and working towards a 2019 shoot for The Light, a drama set in a once-prosperous Welsh town.
