The show ran for seven seasons between 1987 and 1994, and later crossed over into the brand's film franchise.
Tax credits worth $15.6m have been awarded to the show as a filming incentive to shoot in California, according to Deadline.
The new drama is being produced for US subscription channel CBS All Access. The channel is also home to the separate series Star Trek: Discovery that is scheduled to wrap filming on its upcoming season later this month after using Pinewood Toronto Studios as a base.
California awarded its largest tax credit support to a new series of The Orville, a future-set show partly inspired by Star Trek, while financial support has also been allocated to shows including the 1930s-set drama Strange Angel and a new series of long-running anthology show American Horror Story.
Last month, the California Film Commission awarded tax credit support to a selection of high-profile features, including a sequel to the 1990s basketball fantasy Space Jam.
