Force Majeure remake filming in Austria

The movie follows the changing dynamic in a seemingly happy family when they have a close encounter with an avalanche while on a ski holiday.

Location filming is taking place in the ski resorts of Ischgl and Fiss in the west of Austria, and also in the capital Vienna.

Östlund’s original movie was shot in Sweden, Italy and the ski slopes of eastern France. The filmmaker is involved with Downhill as an executive producer.

Austria is not known as a European production hub but its scenic ski slopes and historic capital do attract international shoots.

High-profile Hollywood movies have included spy comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me and the James Bond movie Spectre. Further back in time, stunt scenes for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation were shot at Vienna State Opera.

International filmmakers operating through a co-production structure can get financial support by way of the country’s Film Industry Support Austria subsidy programme, which has an annual budget of €7.5m.
