The third series of big-budget Norwegian political thriller Occupied is filming in Vilnius in Lithuania.

The Netflix show shot some scenes in the capital city in the spring, with the current stint of filming expected to run until early June.

The producers are doubling Vilnius for Moscow and Norway in the drama. Set in the near future during a European energy crisis, the show portrays Russia occupying Norway to restore fuel production. Best-selling author Jo Nesbo conceived the show.

Of the 120-strong production team, around 100 are Lithuanian. The local service-producer on Occupied is Ramunas Skikas through the production company Ahil.

Jurate Pazikaite of the Vilnius Film Office told KFTV: “We‘re happy filmmakers choose Vilnius as their filming spot and are coming back to the city to shoot their productions.”

Lithuania's filming incentive was increased to 30% of eligible local spending from January 2019 and is valid through to 2023. Both foreign and local producers can benefit from the scheme and it is administered by the Lithuanian Film Center.

One stipulation is that at least 80% of all production costs must be incurred in Lithuania, with a minimum local spend of €43,000. The country recently hosted filming on the major new historical drama, Catherine the Great, starring Helen Mirren.
