Amazon Studios and Sony Picture Television’s mammoth new co-production The Wheel of Time, is due to start filming in mid-September in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Croatia.
The lengthy shoot, which will run until May 2020, will have its production base in Prague with further location work set for Croatia and Slovenia.
Based on Robert Jordan’s best-selling high-fantasy novels, The Wheel of Time is set in a world somewhere between the past and the future, in which only certain women have access to magic.
The series of novels takes inspiration from various world cultures and philosophy; there are 14 books to draw from in total, with the final tranche having been completed posthumously by Brandon Sanderson.
Rosamund Pike is set to star in the series as Moiraine; she will also produce. Rafe Judkins has adapted the books with Uta Briesewitz set to direct the first two episodes.
