Sony Pictures’ He-Man film is set to begin filming next month in Prague, Czech Republic.

The Masters of the Universe reboot from Sony and Mattel has experienced many delays, and been long in development, but is now expected to go into production from August 19. The three-month shoot is expected to wrap on or around November 22.

Details of the exact shooting locations would not be confirmed by Sony yet, but given the other-worldly setting of the original 1980s He-Man animation, it is likely a lot of the filming will take place in the country’s studios.

The movie is based on the hugely successful toy line, which formed the basis of the popular animated series of the 1980s and the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren as the title character and Frank Langella as the villainous Skeletor.

This time around it is the surprising choice of Noah Centineo to play He-Man. The rather slight actor most recently starred in teen romances To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Sierra Burgess is a Loser and The Perfect Date.

Aaron and Adam Nee are directing the Mattel Films production from a script by Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. David Goyer remains an executive producer on the project.

Masters of the Universe is expected to be released in March 2021.
