A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting begins Vancouver shoot for Netflix

Principal photography is underway in Vancouver on A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting for Netflix, with a cast including Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch), Tom Felton, Oona Laurence, Alessio Scalzotto, Indya Moore band Ian Ho.

The film is directed by Rachel Talalay, whose recent TV credits include episodes of Sherlock (she became the first female director on the show), The Flash and American Gods.

Ivan Reitman produces for The Montecito Picture Company alongside Amie Karp.

Joe Ballarini has written the screenplay based on the first book in his trilogy of the same name. When first-time babysitter Kelly Ferguson’s charge is kidnapped by the Boogeyman, she discovers a secret society of fierce babysitters who protect children — and an entire world of monsters she will have to fight in order to save him.

Vancouver and Toronto are key production hubs in Canada, and are among just a few cities in the world able to support multiple large-scale productions at any one time.

Canada has two federal incentives: the Canadian film or video production tax credit, designed for Canadian or official co-production projects, and the production services tax credit, for international projects.

Most of the country’s 10 provinces and three territories have their own incentives as well, which can be used alongside the federal offerings.
