Romantic comedy Happiest Season, starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis, is set to shoot in Pittsburgh in the state of Pennsylvania, from mid-January to late February.
Directed by Clea DuVall (Veep), Happy Season follows Abby (Stewart), whose plan to propose to her girlfriend, Harper (Davis), while at her family’s annual holiday party is upended when she discovers Harper hasn’t yet come out to her conservative parents.
The Movie Casting Extras website has put out a call for background artists in the Pittsburgh area to play a variety of roles, from holiday tourists and party guests to ice skaters and college frat boys. Hundreds are expected to be employed over the course of filming.
“[It’s a] great way to start the new year with a new film providing jobs and new revenue to Southwestern Pennsylvania,” said Dawn Keezer, director of the Pittsburgh Film Office.
Netflix’s action film Sweet Girl, directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza and starring Jason Momoa and Marisa Tomei, is also filming in Pittsburgh.
Pennsylvania offers an enticing 25% tax credit incentive to films, commercials and TV series that spend at least 60% of their total production budget in the Commonwealth. An eligible project may receive an additional 5% tax credit if the taxpaying applicant creates a project intended as programming for a national audience using local (qualified) stage facilities.
