Thor: Love and Thunder filming in Australia pushed back to early 2021

Filming of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder will resume at Fox Studios, Sydney in Australia at the start of 2021.

Production plans had been put on hold back in March due to the Coronavirus, but Natalie Portman, who plays Thor’s love interest Jane foster in the film, has confirmed that “we’re shooting in Australia at the beginning of next year”.

The news comes as Australia struggles to contain the coronavirus, especially in Victoria, which broke its own record with 723 new Covid-19 cases yesterday. An outbreak is also spreading across Sydney with experts warning that New South Wales is poised for a ‘super-spreader event’ and a surge in cases.

Waititi said in a recent interview that the industry is facing a lot of delays because of the pandemic, but insists the break has helped a lot in improving the script, storyline, and art of the movie, which he says will be “insane” and “very romantic”.

Marvel’s other blockbuster, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, meanwhile has managed to resume production in western Sydney, having been halted back in February. The production has purpose-built a 'Chinese village' that will serve as a backdrop for the superhero film.

Great incentive 

Australia is keen to get productions back up and running, with the government launching a massive A$400m incentive to help attract Hollywood films earlier this month, which will complement the government’s existing 30% location offset.
