Visual effects and animation specialist DNEG is expanding its Canadian footprint with a new facility in the Greater Toronto area, joining the company’s three other US outposts in Montreal, Vancouver and LA.
The exact location is yet to be established so for the time being, the staff of up to 200 people will be working remotely, largely in technology, VFX and animation. The new studio is part of DNEG’s plans to build on its Canadian presence generally, as it also has expansion plans for its Vancouver and Montreal offices.
DNEG (Double Negative Visual Effects), was founded in London in 1998. As well as scooping several BAFTAs, it has won Academy Awards for its work on major hits including Inception, Interstellar, Ex Machina, Blade Runner 2049, First Man and Tenet.
Alongside its London headquarters and North American sites, DNEG also has facilities in India, including Mumbai, Chennai and Chandigarh.
CEO Namit Malhotra said of the new Canadian plan: “We are further investing in Canada by creating up to 200 new jobs in the Greater Toronto Area with the opening of our fourth North American studio.
"We are also continuing to build out our studios in Vancouver and Montreal to support our upcoming slate of VFX projects, and extending our highly successful DNEG Animation team to Vancouver as they move into production on five new feature animation projects.
“Growth in our Canadian talent and capabilities will help us strategically align with the demands of the entertainment industry and seize upon our new growth initiatives and content creation opportunities.”
