Ridley Scott’s Napoleon biopic, Kitbag, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby, is expected to film across France, Malta and the UK this spring.
The Apple Studios funded feature will follow the French emperor’s climb to power, his personal relationships, including his volatile marriage with Empress Josephine, and his run to becoming one of the world's renowned military leaders. Phoenix plays Napoleon with Kirby starring opposite him as Josephine.
Scott whose credits include Blade Runner 2049, Gladiator, The Martian and most recently House of Gucci, will produce the historical drama through his label Scott Free Productions with Kevin J. Walsh (Manchester by the Sea).
The screenplay is written by David Scarpa who reunites with Scott after they worked together on the 2017 feature All the Money in the World.
