Planning permission is set to be summited for the construction of Ireland's largest film and television studio campus on a 25-acre site in the Lough Sheever Corporate Park in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.
The proposal of the construction of Hammerlake Studios is being brought forward by a consortium led by sectoral experts who have previously held senior roles at Universal Pictures, Disney and Troy Studios.
When completed, the studios will include 11 sound stages with a combined floor area of 100,000 sq ft and a total combined area of 250,000 sq ft. Supporting facilities will include office space, a restaurant, hair and makeup rooms, costume department, art department, multiple suites for talent, green rooms, visual effects and edit rooms.
Phase one of planning permission will be submitted at the end of April 2022. If approved, then studio development of that first phase is expected to take 12 months.
Located in close proximity to Dublin and 50 minutes from Dublin Airport, the site was selected due to the impressive accommodation, catering, and business services in the local area.
The project is believed to generate 300 construction jobs and once completed, the studio could employ up to 350 film crew members.
The TV and film facility will join Ireland's existing facilities, Ardmore Studios, Troy Studios, and Ashford Studios. The new studio is expected to help boost the local Mullingar economy and help Ireland meet the growing demands of productions hosted in the country.
